Statement from Advance Albany County Alliance CEO on the Results of the 2026 Midterm Election

November 4, 2026

Albany, N.Y.

Advance Albany County Alliance CEO Kevin O’Connor released the following statement today following the 2026 midterm elections held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026:

“As CEO of Advance Albany County Alliance, I am encouraged that last night’s results — particularly at the federal level — may open the door for renewed discussions around meaningful offshore wind energy development in the United States.

Albany County is a longtime partner in enabling the growth of New York’s offshore wind energy economy. Prior to the 2024 election, numerous major renewable energy producers had signaled interest and even made commitments to manufacture, assemble and ship wind turbine components in Albany County, primarily at our unique deepwater ports and industrial parks in Coeymans and Albany. Unfortunately, the elections of 2024 and subsequent federal policy changes placed an indefinite ‘pause’ on those plans.

I am hopeful that the shift signaled by the results of the 2026 midterm election will reignite meaningful conversations about offshore wind energy production, which prior analysis has indicated could create upwards of 3,500 jobs and power more than $1.5 billion in annual economic activity for Albany County.”
