Community Invited to Help Shape New South Pearl Street Bus Terminal Project

May 7, 2026

Albany, N.Y.

The Advance Albany County Alliance is seeking community input as plans move forward to transform the former McDonald’s building at 106 South Pearl Street into a new gateway bus terminal for Albany’s South End. The project aims to revitalize the long-vacant property while creating a welcoming transportation hub and community asset.

Residents, business owners, and neighborhood stakeholders are invited to participate in a kickoff community workshop to help shape the design and retail amenities of the future terminal.

The proposed terminal was identified as a priority project through downtown planning efforts conducted over the past year, which included input from hundreds of community participants. Current plans envision an intercity bus terminal serving Trailways and Greyhound, along with CDTA service, a public safety office, neighborhood retail space, and an outdoor gathering area.

During the workshop, attendees will hear from Advance Albany County Alliance staff, project consultants, and transit service providers about the project’s scope and timeline. Community members will also have the opportunity to provide feedback on the station’s design and retail opportunities.

A follow-up workshop will take place on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at Giffen Memorial Elementary School auditorium, where preliminary concepts developed from community feedback will be presented.

Organizers say early community involvement will play a critical role in ensuring the project reflects the needs and priorities of the South End neighborhood.

Community members are encouraged to share information about the workshops throughout their networks. Questions or comments may be directed to [email protected].

The Advance Albany County Alliance encourages all interested residents to attend and help shape the future of this important gateway project for Albany.
