$500,000 Grant Award to Boost Shovel-Ready Tech Manufacturing Site Development in Colonie

December 15, 2025

Albany, N.Y.

The Advance Albany County Alliance has received a $500,000 FAST NY grant award from Governor Kathy Hochul and Empire State Development for the 58-acre Al Tech Advanced Manufacturing Campus: the single-best industrial development site in Albany County. Under the Governor’s dynamic leadership, essential funding is now available to partner with local economic development organizations and advance “shovel-ready” sites, creating more competitive opportunities.

The site, which sat vacant and contaminated for many years before the Alliance’s involvement, is being redeveloped and designed as an attractive location for significant advanced manufacturing employers. As the leading property in the Alliance’s portfolio and key to its “shovel-ready site strategy,” the Al Tech Advanced Manufacturing Campus is expected to create thousands of high-quality jobs for Albany County residents over the next several decades.

“I thank Governor Hochul and Empire State Development for recognizing the opportunity we have created in Albany County through strategic investment and hard work,” said Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy. “Albany County sits at the crossroads of the New York state economy, and the Al Tech Advanced Manufacturing Campus is the ultimate intersection of existing assets, unrivaled geography and limitless potential. Albany County is the want-to-be and need-to-be place to do business, and this grant award supports our continuing work to maintain that vision.”

Governor Kathy Hochul announced the $500,000 grant award for the Al Tech Advanced Manufacturing Campus as part of a statewide priority to aggressively advance the pace of shovel-ready development. The $500,000 grant will assist the Advance Albany County Alliance utilizing New York-based engineering firm McFarland Johnson, Inc., in developing the strategically located site with the future objective of marketing it to significant advanced manufacturing employers.

The Alliance has negotiated a liability agreement with NYSDEC bringing market value to the state funds utilized for the successful brownfield cleanup. This partnership with the state and vital environmental document ensure future protection for companies investing at the site. The FAST NY grant will assist in completing the required SEQR analysis, a generic development plan and local Town of Colonie approvals, while evaluating the site’s essential infrastructure and
development of a power substation. This process will guarantee a predictable timeframe for development, as well as highlight the single most important site asset: the availability of significant power resources.

“Simply put, this FAST NY grant moves us closer to placing the Al Tech Advanced Manufacturing Campus back on the tax rolls, creating thousands of jobs and generating billions of dollars in economic activity at full build-out,” said Kevin O’Connor, CEO of the Advance Albany County Alliance. “Albany County is proud to be the heartbeat of Capital Region economy, and the Al Tech Advanced Manufacturing Campus will be another shining addition to our list of successes.”

The Advance Albany County Alliance Board of Directors, in close partnership with the Albany County IDA, oversees the planning and development of the Al Tech Advanced Manufacturing Campus, which is the keystone project in the Alliance’s overall shovel-ready site strategy.

“The governmental leadership of Albany County, business owners and residents who make up our board are immensely grateful to Governor Hochul and Empire State Development for awarding us this FAST NY grant,” said Alan Goldberg, chairman of the Advance Albany County Alliance Board of Directors. “The Al Tech Advanced Manufacturing Campus stands alone as the single greatest opportunity for shovel-ready tech-driven industrial development in Albany County, among numerous others. We are excited to see this opportunity move closer to reality with the essential assistance of the state of New York.”
